Canada joined several countries in September 2020 to commit to protecting 30% of its land and oceans by 2030.

In December of 2020, Quebec reached the interim protection target of 17% of its land territory, i.e. an area of ​​257,528 km2. Quebec is now the Canadian jurisdiction that protects most of its territory.

Since its creation in 2001, SNAP Québec has contributed to the creation of several tens of square kilometers of protected areas.

Quebec has 16,140 km2 of marine protected areas, which represent 10.4% of its marine territory.
